Skype has been a great tool to do small Web Conferences of 5-10 people. Today it got better. Together with the upgrade to it’s flagship service Skype today has announced a preview new moderated Skypecast Web Conferencing service.
The service will allow the groups of up to 100 persons to do a live Web Conferences through their Skype client software. These Skypecast Web Conferences will be moderated events where various communities can meet and discuss their shared interests.
A person hosting the event will have to schedule a Skypecast Web Conference on Skype site and announce it to interested participants. Members of the community then will be able to register and participate in the live Web Conference. The host will become a Web Conference moderator who is able pass “virtual microphone” to participants, mute, eject or encourage conversations.
Skype Cast Web Conferences are free events and any Skype user can create one. All you have to do is login into Skypecast service with your Skype ID, describe what the Skypecast is about and schedule it. It then gives any registered Skype user possibility to join Web Conference. All you need to do is send out invitations, announce on your website or forum or just wait for Skype users to find your Web Conference though Skypecast directory.
Skypecast Web Conferencing service currently is being tested with Six Apart, creator of popular Movable Type and Type Pad blogging service/software and there are about 50 Skypecasts available at the moment at skypecasts.skype.com.
